Senua's new adventure is an action-adventure game that builds on the acclaimed, award-winning series, expanding the scope of combat, adding more puzzle-solving, and introducing a freedom of exploration. The game is set in Purgatory, Senua's vision of her childhood homeland, and follows her quest to reach the afterlife and be reunited with the ones she's loved and lost. The title is simply Senua, reflecting the game's fresh and new direction, and not 'Hellblade III' as some may have expected.
The game features a returning heroine, Senua, who is trapped between life and death, and her journey is one of healing the wounds of her life to find the peace that unlocks the gate to the afterlife. The story is presented in a way that welcomes both new and returning players, with familiar characters, themes, and parts of the story, but also with a fresh and new direction.
The combat in the game is expanded, with a focus on tactical choice, allowing players to approach fights in different ways, even choosing whether to engage with enemies at all. Senua can now fight multiple enemies at once, with verticality and environmental elements to her advantage, and a broader and deeper combat set, including special Focus Abilities and a variety of weapons.
The game also features an interconnected world, with a map twice the size of Hellblade II, and a linear story told through a map built of interconnected locations. Players can explore the world, with secrets to uncover and a focus on being perceptive, with rewards for those who pay attention to their surroundings.
The traversal in the game is also improved, with a freer and snappier movement system, allowing players to move through the world at their own pace, with increased movement speed. Senua's ability to focus and see the world differently allows her to open up spaces and move through them in interesting ways.
The game is set to release in 2027, available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, and included with Game Pass, as well as on Steam and PlayStation 5. The entire studio is pouring their talent and expertise into the game, creating with the same quality but at a bigger and deeper scale, and the team is committed to giving games the right amount of time to take creative risks and continue doing different things.
